Cushions and Toast

Just bought a couple of little things yesterday. Was so glad we decided to go to the shops as the temperature hit 46 degrees! Was still 44 degrees at 5pm.

Country Road Mini Stripe Skirt

I've probably mentioned here before how much I hate paying full price for anything, especially from Country Road and Witchery. But this skirt caught my eye and it just drapes so nicely, I'm sure on a cost per wear basis I will get my money's worth!

Of course buying a new rug meant buying new cushions too!

I've heard good reviews on the Target dry shampoo. At $2 a can it's a bargain - with 30% off totalling $1.40, it's be crazy to not get 2 cans right? They also had dry conditioner that is supposed to add shine, so I got one of those to try too.

My baby boy had his first vegemite soldiers this morning, almost polished them off!

So glad for the cool change today, I have so much tidying and washing to do. These 2 boys are like cyclones!

Target Baby Sale

The Target Baby sale starts today. There's not much that I need but I always like to have a look around. The cot sheet sets are half price so I might get a set for M as he has started daycare and needs to take sheets for naptime.

Top: Temt, Skirt: Target, Sandals: Forever New

Ugh I hate our bathroom! I can't wait to have it renovated! Really hoping to do it later this year. In the meantime maybe I should move the mirror into another room??

Leapin' Leopards!

The skirt and top in this outfit cost $13 combined. Yes you read that correctly, $13!
Top: Temt, Skirt: Kmart, Sandals: Rip Curl

And unfortunately it shows :( the skirt was uncomfortable and wouldn't sit properly and the top kept riding up. Super annoying!!

Bought a few Christmas presents today but couldn't help grabbing this for my youngest.
Catriona Rowntree for Target - Overall Set

Usually I don't like this kind of thing, especially for boys, but there was just something about it that I found mega cute! I've since had a look at the range online and I think I might pop back in tomorrow and grab a few more things before they sell out!

12WBT - Round 3

Well so much for being back to regular blogging! I'm finding it very tricky to get 5 minutes to myself with a baby and a toddler, will try to post as often as possible though when I get time!

Thank you all so so much for all the congratulations! Bub is almost 8 weeks old already, smiling and cooing and just being adorable like all babies are! Night times have been very hard, he is really unsettled and we seem to think it is reflux but haven't asked the doctor about it yet, he has all the symptoms so we are doing everything we can to keep his little tummy from upsetting him too much.

Almost everyone I have spoken to is adamant that breastfeeding will really help to drop the baby weight, but I'm 8 weeks in and still 15 kilos over my start weight!! I haven't shifted any since I came home from hospital. So now I'm actively doing something about it. I've joined the 12 Week Body Transformation! I never thought I would join anything like this because I have always been pretty good with cooking healthy meals but I really like the idea of the meal planning and shopping lists being done for you as it saves a lot of time! I also want to get back into running and am about to join the gym again. I was planning on joining yesterday but I woke up with Mastitis! If you don't know what that is then I won't bore you with the details and if you do then you will sympathise with me! But I need a little guidance with weights to get stronger and it is certainly much cheaper than a personal trainer! I am very excited to start! Anyone else doing it this round? Or have results to share? My goal is to drop the 15kg but more importantly get stronger and fitter for chasing my boys around!

I've had to buy a few new things to wear as I still don't fit into any of my clothes. It's my way of trying to make myself feel confident with the extra weight on, I think if I make an effort to look nice instead of hiding out then it will boost my confidence. Will have to try and remember to take photos of my purchases after my hiatus, these all text posts are boring!!

Playing Catch Up

My apologies, this post has been a long time coming! I'm also hoping to catch up on all the blogs I've missed reading so comments to come soon :)

As I'm sure you have all guessed, my baby boy is here! Born Sunday 24th June at 12.30am, 7 pounds 7 ounces. I'll attempt to retrace the birth so if you're not into that kinda thing, scroll down a bit further!

My husband was due to start holidays (2 weeks) from Saturday 23rd June. He finished work at 11.30pm on the Friday night and for some reason my son woke up at about 11.00pm so when hubby got home I was trying to put the little mister back to bed to no avail. So the 3 of us watched a bit of tv and had a chat and hubby and I were saying how good it was that he is now on holidays because I was getting so tired and unable to pick up the little mister anymore due to the size of my belly and all the aches and pains I was getting. We finally all started to drift off at about 1.30am and at 2.00am I heard a tiny little pop. I proclaimed that I thought my waters had broken, but that it was possible I was dreaming it. I went to the bathroom and sure enough there was a big gush! Luckily it didn't happen in bed! So up we all got again and headed to the hospital. We met my mother in law there and she took the little mister for us. I should point out at this time that I could barely feel any contractions, just a bit of a pang every now and then.

I was examined straight away and bubs wasn't even engaged yet. This was a problem because last time I had a cesarean and so could not be induced this time around. It was either labour naturally or another cesarean. The doctor was called in (because it was a Saturday my OB wasn't on so I was feeling pretty annoyed at having an OB I'd never met before after paying a small fortune to be assured of having my OB! Not their fault but still annoying all the same.) but he didn't get there until about 8.30am. I still wasn't really having contractions and when I first came in bubs' heart rate was dropping off a bit so he said I had until mid afternoon to go into labour naturally or else it was straight in for a cesarean. So the waiting game began.

I spent all day trying to bring on labour, and even though I wasn't technically in labour yet I was starting to get contractions roughly 5 minutes apart the entire day and they were strong enough to knock the wind out of me. But I was denied any kind of pain relief - including a bath - for fear of staving off labour. I went for a stroll outside and a really strong one came on. When I came back in I let the midwives know and they were going to check with the doctor again what the plan was as it was heading towards 6.00pm. I was checked again and I was finally 1cm woohoo! But I was really getting exhausted from having contractions all day and no sleep for 36 hours. I had to decide what to do knowing that it still could be at least 12 hours before I give birth but I decided to still try for natural labour. So finally I was able to jump in the bath and have some gas.

The contractions had definitely stepped up but I was managing with the bath. The midwife told me that bubs was posterior (his back against my back) and this makes for a very painful labour so laying on my side in the bath might help him to turn. As soon as I laid down my head started spinning and I very nearly passed out. I felt as though I was drowning and when I sat up I vomited. It was a very scary feeling! So I sat up in the corner of the bath with the gas and was doing ok for a few more contractions.

About 10 minutes later I had a contraction that lasted about twice as long as the last one, I commented to hubby that I thought it was a bit weird but I could barely get the words out before an absolutely excruciating pain came over me! It was unlike anything I had ever felt before and I could barely breath through it. As soon as it was over I was begging for an epidural. We called the midwife back in and I was checked again. I was now 4cm, this had happened in about half an hour! Things were moving quite quickly so I was granted the epidural and that also meant I was stuck in bed for the rest of the labour. Unfortunately for me the epi was stronger in one side than the other so one leg went really dead while I had a little feeling in the other one. And because of the posterior position of the baby I had to lay on my left side, something that I hadn't been able to do during pregnancy as it had been painful so I was extremely uncomfortable even though the pain had been taken away. I just couldn't wait for it to be over.

Fast forward a couple of hours and I could start to feel pressure down below so I was checked again and bubs was ready to go! It had all happened pretty fast. The doctor was called and about 45 minutes later my little man was born! He was placed straight on my chest and then everyone left the room. We were left alone for about 2 hours before he was weighed and measured, so different to the last time. In that time he fed quite easily which made me happy as I had a lot of problems breastfeeding the first time around.

The next morning we were moved into the ward and got a double bed (yay!) and planned on going home after 2 nights (supposed to stay 4) but bubs got pretty bad jaundice and had to spend 2 days under UV lights in a humidicrib. That was pretty hard going as he wouldn't settle most of the time and I didn't get much sleep over those few days. But finally we could come home after staying the full 4 nights.

Since being home the feeding has been going well, even though it's every 2 hours during the night so I am surviving on 4-5 hours sleep! Hubbie is back at work but for the next few weeks he is doing afternoon shift so we can spend the days together.

I've lost a few kilos so far after putting on 25kg in total! I have 17 to go and I'm very determined to lose them but because I am breastfeeding I don't want to compromise my milk supply. Will have to find a happy medium and I've heard from most people that breastfeeding will help me to drop the kg's pretty easily anyway. This blog will help me keep track of it all and I hope you'll stay with me for the next chapter :)

Last Minute Baby Purchases

We haven't had to buy very much for the new arrival because we still have everything from the first time around and having another boy also makes things a lot easier and cheaper. Oh boy would we be in trouble if we were having a girl haha

A few last minute purchases:

Love To Swaddle Up (image via www.mothercare.com.au)

We used these for our first baby and they are so great! Makes midnight changes much quicker and bubs sleeps a lot better due to not being able to wriggle out of it! Had to buy a couple of new ones though as the old ones are pretty grubby, even after soaking.

Prince Lionheart Change Table Diaper Caddy (image via www.okme.com.au)

I've been looking for this for ages. Finally managed to order one last night. Just makes change time easier as everything is right there so you don't have to go rummaging around the shelves of the change table for wipes, nappies etc. Would like to have gotten the wipes warmer too but I think it's a bit gimmicky.

Living Textiles 'Ollie' Blanket (image via www.babyzonedirect.com.au)

I ordered a handmade blanket from Etsy for the munchkin and I absolutely love it but the seller doesn't make them anymore dammit and I wanted something a bit special for the new baby. I've searched high and low for a nice blanket and while this isn't particularly 'special' it's quite cute and a good size.

Still looking for a portable change mat to shove in the baby bag and I like the Skip Hop ones but I think $60 is a bit much to spend on something like that and I can't seem to find much else in the shops. Might just end up using a towel or something for a while.

We are really struggling to think of a boys name! We had a name chosen but a close friend just used it! We hadn't spoken about it so it was a total coincidence! We'd like something classic but they seem to be very popular at the moment and we can't seem to think of anything that hasn't been used by someone we know already. Any suggestions are welcome!

39 Weeks

So I've made it to 39 weeks. My last update was that I needed to have a scan, well bubs is perfectly fine and looks to be a healthy size so that's nothing to worry about. Unfortunately for me I've been in complete agony in my back and legs for the past few weeks. I think it's mainly due to putting on so much weight this pregnancy as last time I didn't put on nearly as much and I had no pain.

Luckily my husband is taking leave from this weekend so he will be able to look after the little munchkin until the new bub arrives. I'm finding it near impossible to do it on my own at the moment so I can't wait to have him home!

We are pretty organised now for bubs arrival. The boys will eventually share a bedroom but for the first few months the baby will be in our room. Hopefully he is a good sleeper!

Another reason for the no blogging is that my laptop is failing miserably. I am considering replacing it with an ipad and then maybe down the line getting a desktop. I find having a laptop is more trouble than it's worth as it is so clunky. So for anyone with an ipad, am I crazy to get one instead of a new laptop? I plan on getting a keyboard to use with it when blogging or anything else that requires extensive typing but other than that I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be a good replacement? Any thoughts?

My next obstetrician appointment is Monday morning, crossing my fingers that I'll be holding my baby boy before then!
